What is Cold Laser
Laser therapy is the use of specific wavelengths of light to treat painful and debilitating conditions.

What does it do
Light energy enters the damaged cells and stimulates inter-cellular activity. This reduces pain in the area and speeds recovery of the damaged cells. Once the cells recover, the healing process is complete.
  • Decreasing inflammation by allowing vessels to dilate
  • Decreasing pain by blocking pain transmitted by nerve cells
  • Accelerates tissue repair and cell growth by increasing the energy available to the cells so they can access nutrients and remove wastes more easily
  • Forms new capillaries so that healing time is sped up and scar tissue is reduced
  • Increases cellular metabolism and improves blood circulation
  • Reduced fibrous tissue caused by cuts, scratches or burns
  • Improve nerve function to help stimulate muscles
  • Helps with immunity by stimulating white blood cells
  • Allows faster wound healing by stimulating collagen production which helps to repair tissues

Does it hurt?
Not at all! Some patients will feel a slight tingling at the site during the process but it does not cause pain.

What should I expect?
Your veterinarian will discuss with you the process of cold laser and will make a tailored plan for how often your pet needs to be in.  A registered veterinary technician will be with you for your cold laser appointments and each procedure only takes 4-5 minutes to complete. Most owners stay with their pet for each appointment but anyone in the room must wear protective eye goggles (we have ones for the dogs and cats too!).
Once the laser settings have been set for your pets condition the technician will place the laser probe in specific areas for a certain amount of time to target the problem/condition.
Cold laser can be used in conjunction with almost all medication, weight loss plans, physiotherapy, chiropractic and acupuncture treatments. Cold Laser can be used for short or long term issues.
There is no heat associated with the laser and it does not cause redness or swelling post treatment.
