
WEST BRANT ANIMAL HOSPITAL IS PLEASED TO BE HOSTING REFERRAL DERMATOLOGY CONSULTATIONS AND INTRADERMAL SKIN TESTING WITH DR. ANTHONY YU DVM, MS, DACVD
Dr. Yu joins us with a wealth of knowledge and experience; after completing a combined Masters and Dermatology residency at Auburn University in Alabama he opened the first private dermatology referral practice in Portland, Oregon. He spent 11 years in Oregon, offering his expertise to referring veterinarians whose patients suffered with chronic ear, skin, and allergic conditions.
In 2004 Dr. Yu joined the Ontario Veterinary College as an Associate Professor in Veterinary Dermatology, where he practiced until 2013. He has now returned to private referral veterinary dermatology practice for dogs, cats, and horses in Southwest Ontario, Manitoba, and the Maritimes.

Instructions for Vets and drug withdrawals:
Important information prior to referral
1. Ideally pets should be at least 18 months of age for intradermal allergy testing
2. Medications withdrawal times in preparation for testing area as follows:
a. Injectable steroids (e.g. Depo-Medrol) for 8-12 weeks
b. Oral steroids (e.g. prednisone, Vanectyl-P, etc.) for 4 weeks.
c. Atopica (cyclosporine) for 2-4 weeks
d. Topical steroids (e.g. Otomax, Surolan, etc.) for 2 weeks
e. Oral or topical antihistamines for 2 weeks
f. Essential Fatty Acids (capsules or high EFA diets) for 2 weeks
3. Pets may be on antibiotics/antiyeast medications up to the time of testing.
4. Preliminary diagnostic tests such as skin scrapings, treatment forSarcoptes, food trials, etc. should be done prior to referring for skin testing.
5. An 8-12 hour fast is required for all patients for sedation.
