HeartwormTransmitted by mosquitoes; Heartworm is potentially a fatal disease that is preventable.
Once an infected mosquito has infected your dog or cat the worms mature in their heart. In the early stage of the disease no symptoms are usually seen. When left untreated the worms increase in size and number then we start to see signs similar to heart disease (cough, weight loss, bloated abdomen, decreased energy or exercise intolerance). We test every dog every year to insure they have not contracted heartworm then give them preventative heartworm medications from June to November. |
