Surgical Services
Our state-of-the-art surgical suite allows us to perform of a wide variety of surgical procedures. We are equipped with a CO2 laser and comprehensive anesthetic monitoring (includes heart rate, ECG (heart rhythm), respiration (CO2 levels), blood pressure and temperature. Monitoring is done by our Registered Veterinary Technicians.
Optional treatments for most surgeries include:
Anesthesia
We utilize the safest available anesthetics to provide an extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high-risk patients. We also believe in good pain management for all of our patients. Pre-anesthetic bloodwork is highly recommended for all patients and is offered as an option for routine surgeries of young patients. All patients will receive intravenous (IV) fluids included in the cost of their surgery. These fluids help with hydration and blood pressure throughout the procedure.
C02 Laser Surgery
At West Brant Animal Hospital we use our laser for almost all of our surgical procedures. Rather than using a surgical scalpel blade which opens up blood vessels causing bleeding, the carbon dioxide (CO2) laser seals small blood vessels and nerve endings while it cuts. This reduces bleeding, swelling and pain for our pet. The laser emits an infrared light at a specific wavelength that the water in cells absorbs. The surgeon as the ability to change the strength and type of wavelength settings for each patient and procedure.
